I know (at least the hatley shop told me) that the oem pn for the 83 fxrs I have is 60654-82a. I just don't know if this one will be interchangeable right off..

there's 2 of the 60602-79A's currently on eBay, and they both say they 'll fit early FXR's or FLT's (both 5 speeds). I think you're good to go.

I know the 80FLT had a 5-speed, but will the -79A primary have the hole for the mid controls that the OP is trying to achieve?

Yes, it does have the hole for the mids, currently plugged but it's there

this pic of an eBay 60602-79A shows the hole.

83 fxrs help-a.jpg

The first -79 revision without the A I believe did not have the hole.

I see 4 primaries on ebay, all say 60602-79A
2 have the hole and 2 don't have it.

The 82 number on the FXR part might be because it's a colo or finish variant, just for the FXR/FXRS

I can check the parts book later

Right on, much appreciated everyone. If I have a chance tonight I may start the teardown, we'll see what happens

Is there a rubber plug in this hole on the FLT primaries? If so, is this plug available, as Id love to plug mine with something prettier than a bolt.
