I have a 1982 fxr shovelhead 5 speed transmission. My clutch shift fork keeps breaking. I can't seem to figure out why. I adjusted clutch to specs. Any help or suggestions would be very helpful
Thank you. I thought I adjusted it by the book. I will put a new one in and readjust the clutch. But does it mean it's over tight. I've seen some posts where they needed to back it off a quarter turn.
No...I doubt it...When you replace the fork, look at how it works.
The Fork if adjusted too close to the shaft where the Pushrod comes out...it may contact it, and break it! Solution for this is to put more pushrod into the right side of the case. I have one that comes to me where there is Not alot of pushrod on the clutch side anymore [AM clutch] oh well...Needs to be enough on the "fork side" to ensure the fork can't contact the shaft...
If ya Need to...Drop ,me a PM
Thank you that will help out a lot. I have more problems to figure out. I went to tear it apart and found that the pushrod adjustment screw wont turn so I assume my pushrod has welded it's self. Can I take the tyranny cover off with tension on the pushrod or do you have a idea on how to free it up.

All is good in there throw out bearing, shift fork and pushrod are good. The adjuster screw will not turn. Do you have any ideas on how to free it up. Thank you
[QUOTE=Racepres;15675925]Hmmm???
never had that one...Impact???
If it don't go...Force it.
if it Breaks...it needed Replaced anyway!!!!
BTW
How the hell did you adjust it if the Adjustment screw is Stuck????[/QUOTE
Sorry I posted before taking it apart. I had the shift fork break then I put a new one in. Did the adjustment by the book and about 100 miles later I thought it broke again. But it did not. I noticed it was frozen when I went to adjust it again. It was the clutch cable that snapped this time. Thank you for all your help. Your the best.
