I've actually been having fun learning by necessity with this shovelhead. This latest glitch has me laughing and scratching my head. I'm just not sure what to think about this one:

Just put a new regulator on. She starts up fine and idles nice. Charging system is working correctly. As soon as i put it in gear the starter kicks in and starts spinning, wtf? Reach down and tap the relay to get it to stop.

Maybe spring inside relay broke and the vibration . . . ?

 

Took the relay off and it rattles like a maraca. I'm guessing they're not suppose to do that?

 

Nope, relays are not supposed to rattle. I'd definitely change it out. I swapped out the stock starter relay for a solid state one. Works perfectly.
