Thanks to John, it was leak free for a long time, people were surprised being an AMF bike. But last year it started leaking badly from the top of the forward cylinder. I needed to rebuilt the heads for the A2 cam anyway, so I disassembled it. I also swapped pushrod tubes with my 82 FXR restoration because I couldn't get new ones and the ones on this bike were in better shape. It still leaked from the top of the front exhaust tube but that was only a pinched o-ring. This season I noticed more than usual leakage and pinpointed it to the lower rear tubes. I put new seals in with the pushrod tubes but might have mixed up early and late again, especially with the 82 tubes. I will say the leaks are probably self induced, but I can fix them if I get the right seals.

Yes, they need replacing! But what are they? Not shovelhead or panhead, but some sort of hybrid? They are not adjustable, the lifter has the adjuster in it.

Common aftermarket kit, got a bin full of those I need to toss, no idea why I still have them.

You'll find a little noise goes away when you change them too.

I will replace them but not sure of what to buy. All the steel ones have adjusters built in. My lifters are true solid lifters (not conversions). Thanks

They measure about 9 3/8" with a tape measure

so you all are sure it is just the thickness of the rods that is causing the leak?

Rods contribute to it, but not all of it, using o-ring style tubes and maybe older dry corks doesn't help. Had my share of minor leak issues with those and mixing and matching parts.
