Default Correct Idle Setting

I have thoroughly enjoyed the 82 FLH that I bought a few weeks ago. The help you guys have given me has helped a lot. I now how working turn signal blinkers.

When I crank the bike and turn off the choke, it idles really nicely and sounds awesome. After riding down the road a bit though, it seems to idle much higher. is that normal for it to idle so high after driving down the road? I would think it would idle the same as it does just after startup.

As always, any help is appreciated.

82 uses the dual cable. Once up to operating temp I would check/adjust the return cable. May not be fully returning to idle speed. When was the last time the cabels were cleaned and lubed? Any chance the cables are sticky, dirty and/or dry?

Well my choke doesn't have a cable that I can tell. I just reach down with right hand and push the choke lever back down. Choke lever on mine is right above the carb filter cover (S&S)

He was asking about the throttle return cable. If it is too tight or sticking it may not let the throttle fully return to closed position

When the oil gets hot, it gets thinner and allows all the moving parts to have less resistance. Nothing to worry about.
