The spacer seals against the bearing thrust face - metal to metal - when you torque down the compensator it seals - but not completely - if you read some of the older belt drive instructions it will say to push RTV into the spline grooves prior to final assembly b/c the metal to metal seal is not always good - the rear of the spacer can also get damaged - then it always leaks badly - I think this is what John is talking about - but you may not have a problem - the oil may be just leaking out there b/c you do not have the spacer torqued down against the bearing
there is no other part besides the spacer and the seal that fit against the bearing - microfiche???? man - I have not seen **** like that in 20 years - most guys I deal with dont even know WTF that is
^^^ This
Seals the Same way [or Not] as the Rear drive Sprocket on the Tranny... loose = probably Damaged where the Faces Meet!!!

yeah microfiche helps a bunch for me if I find the correct one. As for the spacer is this needing to be replaced. And as for installing
well - I've never seen one grooved like that - buy a new one - Eastern sells then USA made for 20 bucks - I run the seal the other way - lip pointed in so it does not burp out onto my belts/open primaries
bottom line - buy a new spacer - check depth of comp nut or make sure it is bottoming and tightening the collar down - end play should verify this as well
washers? - bottom tap (although you may not have a large enough tap) - I would check the clearance using clay on the inside of the nut or whatever you call that stinking tube retainer-nut
