Default 75 FlH Project

Been a while since I've been here. Life has a way of sneaking up on a body. Very close to sending my FLH to the paint shop, little tired of gray primer. Have a couple of issues still, bike starts great, transmission shifts very smoothly. I have to pump up the front brake, but it will hold pressure until I release the brake handle. I've bench-bled the front master cylinder until all signs of air disappeared and the line as well. Thinking of removing the caliper and suspending it above the level of the master cylinder and put a shim in between the shoes, then re-bleed the brake. It's got to have a small amount of air still in the system and this is the only way I can think of to completely purge the brake line. Any ideas on a better way?

Sometimes little air bubbles get suspended in the fluid. This may sound stupid- but tapping on the brake line while bleeding can help stubborn bubbles to find their way out.
on a side note- i always replace the bleeder screw with stock replacement or a Speedbleeder screw.
(The speedbleeder makes bleeding a snap)

RDHigh, not at all. I've done that with hard lines but not flex lines. I'll give it a shot.

And.. Believe it or Not.. I have removed the Caliper and compressed it, and accomplished a Fair Bleed job!!!
Note 1] If duals ya gotta compress together.
Note 2] Make sure you monitor the MC fluid level... If you been adding to it... it may Become Overfilled when Compressing!!! A small syringe will suck out excess without Waste!!!

Good Luck

I have back bled from the caliper to the master. Using a new cleaned oil can. The one with the pump on top. I could not move enough fluid to push the air bubble down the line and out the bleeder using the master cylinder. This worked well for me. Good luck.

bleed the line at the fitting on the Master - this has worked for me numerous times when this occurs - the air traps up at the fitting and you cannot push it through - guess a reverse bleed would work but I have not done that

the master needs to be level to get the air from the body to the fluid in the bowl - sometimes on the k stand and turning the bars gets you close

If it still won't hold take the caliper apart and set it on top of the disk with the brake line pointing straight up. Take the cover off the master cylinder and SLOWLY squeeze the lever all the way in. Now let it snap back. Slowly pull it in just a tad and a whole bunch of little bubbles will come out. Keep repeating until the bubbles no longer appear. Then repeat several more times to make sure. I use this method and it works well. You may also have to tap the line just outside of the master cylinder. Air gets trapped in that spot.
