rear caliper rebuild disc versus drum notes
finally fixed the dragging rear dual piston setup on my 78 - turned out the shop that built this bike for the PO put the seat and pressure check valve in a disc brake setup - perhaps they bought a new M/C and did not remove these parts - the check valve holds about 10 psi in the system to pre-load the drum brake cylinder so you dont have to double pump the brakes - if you put the seat and check valve in the master for a disc setup - the brake will drag - the pad will not have enough force to retract against the residual pressure - the seat is a rubber coated washer - it seals the check valve against the rear of the cylinder - see the picture below for the actual parts - so - if you are runnin a drum - you must install the the seat and check valve - disc - leave them out - I actually traced the pressure in the system to the master - pulled the master - found the check valve and seat - honed - new cup and ring seal - no check valve - brakes are great - no drag
