I tried to search here, and google, and amazon, but that just confused me. I need a new battery for my 79 FXS 1340. What do you recommend and where to buy? are those chinese 375CCA batteries any good? is 325CCA enough? Is this going to be like an oil thread? haha
thanks, Joe
^^^ Plenty of $$ for those huh??
I use fairly cheap AGM Batteries... they last three years... I go thru alot of Batteries... so cheap [like 50 bucks] is all I desire.. I also do Not take any special care of 'em.. leave in in Freezing weather in winter, never charge 'em... if they take a crap... I get different one... if it don't last 3 years... I don't get from that chiwanese supplier anymore..
Probably I am Not the best sales Rep for Batteries????
I have received good service from Harley AGM batteries.
I do not know who makes them for Harley but you can probably get it for less if it doesn't have the H-D name on it.

Overpriced and you can get the same battery from Deka who makes harley batteries for about 1/3 to 1/2 what a dealer want's.
For a reasonably stock shovel any decent AGM battery is fine. Check amazon they sell them
I would say it depends on a couple things-
If you are performance orientated get one of the 3 lb varieties.
They work well and at 3 lbs it is a nice weight. delete.
They are about 1/2 the reg size too.
If you go regular lead acid scrutinize the warranty.
A lot of companies make money on the prorate sham.
I Have not need to replace the battery in my shovel from when I purchased the bike 2 years ago.. But I have been using Interstate batteries for a few years now In my high compression Evo with a 1.4 kw starter Never an issue and yes 325 cca is plenty. My interstate is 320 cca I think it was a $140 from an Indy. Probably can find them cheaper... Great battery though.
Not interested in Lithium, AGM is my choice, so I wound up with a Deka from Amazon, for $83. It looks like the price jumped already: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004D8P2BC
I only recommend Li batteries if you need serious cranking amps for a big motor or doing a custom application and need a small one you hide but still have the umph to get it done. Great item but $$$$$.
Like Twizted said. Deka manufacturers the OEM for HD. They handle the vibration really well which is what will usually kill the battery. Not accounting for heat.
Great battery and cheaper than buying Harley Branded batteries.
Johnson Controls and AMG make great batteries too but I'm not sure about their motorcycle line.
