Ignition Problems

I sprayed starting fluid on the intake and nothing changed, so no leaks there... Tomorrow when it cools off I'll verify that valve adjustment hasn't gone bad. I can hear them but didn't notice if that is new or always been like that. I don't have a 5-ohm coil to use, but I did put a 2-ohm ballast resistor in line with the positive side, like on a car.

I re-adjusted the valves - front intake and rear exhaust were tight. It seemed to help, but still not perfect. I started it on the enrichener and it ran great, but I closed that and it went back to missing. I rode around the neighborhood, and on the enrichener it ran good at low speeds, but felt flat at higher RPMs. With the enrichener off, it missed at low speeds but ran good at higher RPMs. On the enrichener the exhaust has a lot of black smoke when I crack it off idle. I looked up my jets - 31 intermediate and 72 main, which should be plenty...

I agree. With that jetting, I think it would be a fat mixture. I see folks have made a manifold test block where you can put 10 psi to it,
and spray soap water on the sealing area to check for leaks.
That said, I usually do not try to chase a mixture issue until I know the ignition is as good as it can be.
