Hey guys, I’m putting an Andrews cam in my 72 shovel and I have a couple questions. The FM says to check the breather end-play without the gasket. The FM says it should be .001 minimum. This has me kind of baffled Because without the gasket, my machinists straight edge actually rocks on the breather spacer And you cannot touch both sides of the case with the straight edge. When I install the gasket, I have about .008 clearance. The gasket is supposed to crush .006 with proper torque Which would leave me .002 end play. So how do I do this?
alway check thru the tapet block [removed] and shoot for 10 thou. with gasket in place and cover torqued....
Ai't never had issues... and BTW for me loose is better than too close...
On the breather... i ain't very fussy ... easy enough to put a spot of clay on the spacer and try for "very loose"

very true what race posted - we just get the breather to rock back and forth with a pick not zero - and the cam is easier as we have a dial tool to check in and out
the gasket paper today is not the same as when the books were written about paper crush you could rely on
