I did not see that you posted the ohms reading on the coil you already have -
that reading will answer your question what way to go with what you have
remove both wires on the coil then take the reading and Post it
I just talked with a local indy. He said I would most likely need a new coil as well. Mine is a 3 post coil where as a dual fire should be a 2 post. He said I would need a dual fire coil. Sound about right? Honestly I don't care about the maintenance for the points...I just want the bike to fire up when I kick it. Points are supposedly easier to kick over, or at least that's what I've heard...anyone?
If you have two plugs you need dual fire (wasted spark on the exhaust side )
I think you will not be able to notice the difference in kicking it over.
It should start EZ if all things are set up right.
The main point is it will fire EVERY time you roll up through the compression stroke to TDC.
Some of the electronics have switches for kickers.
Most electronic ignition systems will not advance the timing till at least 500 rpm... I don't think you will be able to kick your bike that hard.... And seriously do you think that by going to points your gonna have less than 0* to help aide in kick starting your bike? The moco went to electronic because it's better than old points technology, especially to the novice...... If it's become harder to start over time I'd be looking else where... And how much time and miles are we talking about...?
If your looking for a compu-fire with centrifigul advance I have one that I will never use... PM an offer... I switched to a Screaming Eagle ignition with an Evo cam rotor... Works great.... Plus I can still utilize the VOES with a manual switch... Again, works great...
On my 82 it has a dyna S I believe. A dyna something anyway just cant recall but I can check later. I was told by a local Indy and friend that since my bike is now kick only I should switch back to points because the Dyna will take three kicks vs 1 with the points. I know when I used the starter motor it always took a number of revolutions before it would fire, my 66 fires almost instantly with points.
