Hey guys I've got a 1980 shovel with a Daytona ignition in her. The bike is kick only and I really want to go back to points. I know I've seen some accel kits out there for pretty cheap but is there anything else needed? Looks like the kits usually comes with the condenser, points, backplate, and a spool of wire with crimp connectors. Any thoughts? How hard was it? I heard that points are a snap to start vs the electronic kickers. She used to start great but as time goes on it seems like something isn't quite right.

the centrifugal advance unit if it has one is going bad - the only one that works is the one with the bearings for the weights - switch it and see what happens - you will be needing a new one with points anyway
Points/ condenser, coil, is about as simple as it gets.
Chevy 6 cylinder points fit.
Most any condenser you fit in there will work
My current coil won't work? Forgive me for asking but why? And all the kits I've seen do not come with a coil. Just curious as to do I need a special coil.

Your electronic coil prolly will not work if it is for electronics.
Points coils and electronic ones are different ohms
points are usually 5 OHM and everything else 3
You could try it as it is a breaker system and may work for a long time..but have a spare in your back pocket.

I know they are better because I can fix a problem anywhere.
Us old guys grew up with points and condensers in everything.
In cars, they were replaced about every 6 to 10K miles .
They could use a mid-time point timing adjustment, as the rubbing block on the points wears away.
This cause retarded timing.
With electronic timing, there is nothing to do after the initial adjustment.
When it breaks dwn on a cold dark night there is no way to fix it
That is the total difference between electronics and caveman.
Do I have points?

I run Daytona because of the timing needs and double plugs.
On long trips, I carry the old school breaker plate complete with a coil to get out of a jam.
If I did not have double plugs and timing needs I would run points .
compu-fire 20100 ignition dual fire is hard to beat and
easy to install use the same mechanical advance and
will run for years and dude that is one sweet shovel

I don't get this you wrote above - what does a slight amount of retard in timing needs have to do with running or not running points - makes no sense and you split the ohms and run twin coils for 4 pugs - in the 80s we 100s that way
