Default Need SEAT help!

recently purchased a 1984 FLH belt drive shovelhead...the seat is a mustang currently, and I HATE it...what are my seat options? I would love a buddy seat and/or vintage solo seat setup...this mustang just DOESN'T look the part on the scoot. Thanks! (it does have a pogo hole that goes clear through). Bob

some you need to fab a plate on the bottom for the pogo to bolt to - heathers leathers make the best seats in both solo and solo and you don't need a real seat pan as its not consider a collectable so the price is cheaper because a aftermarket pan can be used

all kinds of colors and fringe or Jules for the skirt if you do that

corbin makes a solo but its like sitting on a garbage can cover after an hour - and the v twin seats are a garbage cans to begin with

I put a new Corbin sport solo on my 84 and I like the seat. I too hated Corbin seats for years but the Sport solo is a good fit for me. Give it some break in miles, it gets better after around 2000 miles.

You do not mention if you are riding solo or two up, makes a big difference in this conversation. My opinions:

1- If riding solo, get the bike setup with a traditional solo pogo seat, after market or HD doesn't matter, will be a very comfy ride on the bike

2- If riding two up, you already have the best setup, unless you are 5'6" and your riding partner is 5'0" and 100 #, you will not be comfortable on anything the factory made for two up riding. From the original Buddy seats to the later scissor mechanism seats, all made for little people.

3- I had the same Mustang seat, I agree not the best. Then I found their "Wide" seat for cheap money on the Bay, much more comfortable for myself and passenger.

Good luck.

I will be picking up an '83 FLH soon and was looking into putting a pogo solo on it. I found out that in 1980 (maybe?) they stopped assembling the bikes ready for pogo seats unless it was a Police model. As stated earlier the plate at the bottom of the tube was not installed nor were the bushings installed in the tube. I don't fully have it understood yet but everything I found said the bushings needed to be for the older Flathead style bikes and the pogo itself also had to be for the older Flathead size tube and bushings. Inserting the bushings also requires some research and or tools that I haven't dug into yet.

As I am 6'3", I may abandon the pogo seat route and go with the solo Police style seat on a spring kit that will put the seat back farther for a more comfortable riding position.

I had a Mustang Wide Vintage solo with backrest on my other bike and it was more comfortable than most other aftermarket seats, however nothing is more comfortable than the traditional solo pogo seat IMO and the look also fits the bill.

A bud of mine has a 80's shovel and had to weld a plate on the bottom to install a pogo.
