Didn't know the older bikes worked that way, mine doesn't.

Don't know when exactly the change occurred but '69 had the 3 position switch that I forget to turn off half the time. The dash lights are almost impossible to see in bright sunlight. '72 had the switch you have to hold down so sometime in between those years.

Now you say that... yea my '68 had the separate switches...screwed to the handlebars... I believe the typical '73 to '82 switches, were the small round push-buttons...and even the early '82 up switches, you need to hold down for signals... '82 thru '84 certainly..
So I'll say... 1973 thru 1984... that I know of...need to hold the switch...

My 71 TS switch is on the right side handlebar....3 position switch. No hold down needed. It is factory correct.

Although mine appeared to be OEM, when you stated the above, I thought crap another thing I need to check to determine if the switch was correct for my year. Phew made the cut as those push button hold down buttons started in '72...perhaps an AMF thing..
