Default Clutch retainer question

Where does one install one of those plastic clutch retainer gadgets I see advertised— is it inside of the clutch drum before the plates are installed? Do they really work in terms of a better performing clutch?

Called a ram jett retainer and yes they work well if set up right, I've been using them in shovels for decades. Aluminium pressure plate helps too.

My clutch has one.
You need to check the fit and use the A, B, or C positions. Not too tight, not too loose.
I just took mine apart and cleaned up the surface on the clutch basket.
No sense in putting old friction plates back in it, so replace them as well.
Do yourself a favor and replace the steel plates with new Alto plates. You can get a set for about $35.
I used the ones with the "silencers", but some people like plates without.
An aluminum pressure plate and you won't believe how smooth it is.

Thanks for the replies . So, these do install inside of the drum before the plates are installed?

what it does is the ram jet holds the clutch hub and the drum in place so the drum does not follow the clutch to the right when pulled in to shift the trans - all it does and it does it well
