Question conrod thrust washers

G'day fellas.
Rebuilding a '76 74" motor for a mate. Had a hard life, bored to +90 ! Long story short, motor stripped to replace most moving parts. Got new rods, pin (3 hole) and bearings that are the same width as the old ones. When installed in flywheels there is about 75 thou sideplay (same as the old ones). The thrust washers measure 60 thou each so would need to be 85 thou each to bring it up to max sideplay. This would mean the thrust washers would protrude from the flywheel face by 25 thou. Am I missing something?
Cheers

I have seen this more then once - but they make a crank pin 2 hole that is 25 thousands shorter to correct some of this

they also make thicker washers in the eastern dealer catalog so you can get to it > some what closer

but unintended consequences are about - you can end up pulling the pinion shaft too far and the oil pump gearing and even the sprocket shaft is effected but not as much as the pinion

you need to pay attention to gear to gear locations / a flat side will pull right out of the oil feed hole < so you see what I am talking about > yours is end oiling not an issue unless the bushing is worn then your not sealing the oil in the cam cover bushing correctly - lifter don't stay pumped up at an extended idle in traffic

G'day John, thanks mate.
Had a look at Eastern. A good selection for BT 29-54 but all they have for 76 is +5 thou. Not knowing the id and od of all the different washers it's a lottery to pick the right ones that I can modify to fit. Even then staking them into the flywheels (punch marks) would be touch and go not to distort them.
Not knowing what has been done to the crank previously leaves me a bit blind. The reason for it coming down is a blown piston was replaced but the shrapnel wasn't cleaned (the breather valve was half full of debris) out and it only did a few hundred miles before it made horrible noises. It's been waiting for a few years for a sucker to say "I'll do it". I'm the sucker!

G'day fellas.
Would anyone know the dimensions of the "Forty-Five" thrust washers? Eastern list a 0.090" thick 24077-26 but I can't find the ID or OD anywhere.
A quick measure of the old ones are ID 1.41" OD 2.08" x 0.06". If I can't find anything I'll have to make a pair.
Cheers

G'day fellas.
Well I made a pair of thrust washers today out of 0.080" brass plate. Still needed to put 0.010" shim behind each to bring the end play to 0.015". Now the fun bit of truing the lump up.
Cheers

S&S posts 60 percent BUT that is with equal weight flywheels big twin

a 45 is a 5000 rpm engine down hill so you will never get to that 1/2 balance factor at 60 percent

57 percent is the military hang number
