Default Are solid cams that much noiser?

Just installed the sifton 55q cam. Same specs as sifton 101. New s&s tappets. S&s solid lifter cups. S&s chromoly push rods. S&s breather gear. Cam end play is .006" Oil holes blocked off. Tappets are turned with the flat sides facing away from each other.
Pushrods adjustment is correct.
Bike fired right up. But it's noisy. Like...ironhead noisy. I thought i f'd something up. Jack up the bike. 4th gear. Plugs out. Roll the wheel. I hear what sounds like the tappets falling and hitting the cam lobes.

Take out the push rods.
Roll the wheel in gear.
Silence.
Pushrods back in.
Roll wheel.
Same noise.

Noise is definitely around the tappets. Not around the rockers. Unless it's the valves slamming shut. Didnt do that with the h cam.
Nothing in the cam chest is suspicious looking. Lifter blocks have no measurable wear, so the tappets arent flopping around.
When i had the h cam in there, with oe tappets with cheap solid cups with those big aluminum pushrods, this noise wasnt there.
So...is this normal? Bike runs perfect otherwise.
Oh. It makes the noise with the clutch pulled in, or in gear.

My 66 had those big honkin aluminum pushrods as well and the bike was quiet. Im having trouble getting the correct length steel pushrods from S&S so Im most likely going to run them again with the current solid setup. Not much help I know but I guess the point is mine is quiet with solid lifters.

I'll try the stuff i removed, see if the noise changes. I can love with the rackets, myself, I just dont want anything to be wrong. After taking things apart, and not seeing anything out of the ordinary, I'm not as worried about it
