Default '77 FXE neutral switch question

Just had the tranny in my '77 rebuilt and the neutral light does not come on consistently. If I lightly press down on the shift lever while in neutral it comes on and will stay on as long as i hold it down. However, when allowing the lever to pop back up to the neutral position the light goes off. So--are these switches prone to failure? would changing the switches gasket to thinner or thicker one make any difference? I can live without it but just curious if there is a fix short of replacing the switch or pulling the transmission out again( which will not be done!) . This doesn't seem to be a bulb issue as it will go on and stay on as long as i hold the lever down a bit.

the switches are at best ok - but once you wash out the trans and re install the thread can stretch causing the end ball to loose its ground - its not that big a deal to replace it they are available - picture up yours and go looking so you get the same one - 6 different ones but not all fit the same location - helps if your trans is correct for the year

I'm gonna go with "timed" As I have had that very problem... switch good... Timing a bit off!!! On a Ratchet top.. Seems less likely on a Cow Pie.

I did screw one up....it might have been a sloppy one as i could get first gear....and it got 4 th too. But i f ed up were the tit lines up to hole .... i could very well have screwed something else up,with it... easy to check...neutral and the tit has to show when you pull switch. Can check switch too that way. Figure out debth of switch. Than check tit......
