I would Not go to any random Machine shop with my Shovelhead [or any Harley] stuff... Only an established/accomplished Indy...
I am Not interested in someone who Can do it... I choose someone who Has done it... preferably Numerous times!!!!!
Someone like Mark is maybe the Next step..
You certainly can do it yerself... But tooling alone is Costly...

But Baisley's (Portland, OR) is relatively close to you? One of the best Indy places your bike can wish for...
Do they do the machining 'in house' or do they ship it off? I figure i might as well save on the cost of the middleman and go directly to the machine shop

Viking City V-Twin in Poulsbo, I don't have their number at work, they're newer around here, but I've heard good things about them so far. They do work on shovels tho. Rottweiller Bikes in Bremerton is another. I haven't dealt with them yet, I just know of the indy's in the hood....

That's one-stop shop AFAIK. One of the best you can find, too.

EDITED TO ADD: I have absolutely NO association with them whatsoever, just trying to help out. As always, do your own homework and then decide.

It's all good, light hearted fun. I've learned a lot from John and all you guys. I know it's been over 30 years since i went thru motorcycle repair school. Ended up being an electrician. I have friends close by that also rebuild and race (retired now) there own bikes. So I'm getting lot's of help from all directions. When any of you hint at the idea, I don't hesitate to take a step back and re-examine my abilities.

That being said, I sometimes wonder if i get more pleasure from tinkering in the garage than i do from actually riding . . . nope . . . riding is a whole spiritual experience unto itself

Ok, I've spent too much time looking for and actual 'shop manual' and all i find is 'ebooks/emanuals'. I would prefer to have an actual book if you guys know where i can get my hands on one. I guess I'm just not looking in the right place. I've seen a link in this forum before and now i can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated

Ship them here, one of the best HD machines shops west of the Mississippi river. Been in business for decades, only place I use for head or boring work on old iron.
