Default Clutch Questions

I have my basket case running well, but now I'm having some clutch release issues. I have followed the book on adjustments, but when pulling the lever, it not fully disengaging.

When pulling the clutch lever, how much deflection should I see at the pressure plate? 1/16 or so? This is a wet clutch setup.

Release lever is set to 1/2" from starter as detailed in book. I believe this gives the best position for the release lever fork. The lock nuts are set to 1" to 1 1/32".

New cable and Bikers Choice lever.

you could have a bad throwout bearing its in the kicker cover

BUT - the clutch arm is correct at 1/2 inch BUT is the screw loose at the 1/2 inch when you back it off to the 1/2 inch - the lever should be able to move to the starter easy - does it

I pulled the kicker cover during the restore. The T/O looked OK. I'll double check the other two BUT's. Thanks.

(the lever should be able to move to the starter easy - does it) Right now, with the cable on and locked with the lock nut, the release lever is 1/2 from the starter. It does not move any closer to it. When pulling the lever, I get the full motion of the lever travel, and the release lever does not hit the case... stopping the the motion. Not sure what you mean that the lever should be able to move to the starter easy

if incorrect parts are in it as I am not looking at what you are - to re do the entire adjustment the arm at 1/2 inch off the starter should have free play back to the starter

then you pull the bar lever

then you adjust the screw to till the lever is at the clamp

then hold that position with the screw and tighten the nut

what do you have NOW

I started from scratch.... Pulled the derby cover and re-adjusted the pressure plate springs from 31/32" to 1 1/32nd" and I got down-right precise with it.. I re-adjusted the release lever so the release fingers on the release shaft were in the best position to start pushing on the T/O bearing to give it the most leverage and furthest movement when pulling the clutch lever. I adjusted the cable and bounced back to the rod adjustment a time or two... now all is well. I took the bike for a ride and I have minimal - to no creep, while in gear with the clutch pulled... Happiness is....a warm bike and good clutch.

Similar to Mousetrap adjustment. Loosen everything up, start from scratch and follow the manual.
