crankcase misalignment
I'm building a bottom end of a 1976 74" for a mate. Looks like a few butchers have been in there before me. Done the crank with new rod assembly and trued to within 1.5 thou. New Timkin sprocket side and rollers on pinion side. Line reamed both crank and cam bush's. All spins easily.
Now the problem. With the cases together the barrel faces aren't level. The right hand (pinion side) is high by 5 thou at the front and 3 thou at the rear. If it was high and low I could understand but both f & r high has got me stuffed.
They are a matched pair by the number stamps. The two bottom studs that should be a snug fit are in the drive side but are a small clearance fit in the pinion side. Is this right?
Cheers
any machine shop worth anything can remove the exact same amount on the block decks - BUT check when the block has all of it studs and bolts tight that the jug fits in the hole and aligns with the studs FIRST
