^^ I loved mine... wish I still had it.. but, that was very long ago,.. before I made the decision to own H-D exclusively... Not too smart if you consider that a Sprint was among them...worst No-Starting SOB EVER... a Sprint is the Best reason in the world Not to own a Harley...IMO

Yup, was a clueless skinny kid not long outa high school, might have weighed 160lbs. Tossed me completely over the handlebars one time. When I learned that oh so important little lesson about not locking the knee when kicking.

Thing was a fun beast to ride when it was running though, not much could touch it for raw grunt when playing in the woods.

Only bikes I ever had to get mad at were that POS 63 piglet chopper I had a very short while and a BSA 441 Victor 1 lunger, that was a no starting sob on a good day.

A tuned bike and clued owner can one or two kick every time even for healthy engines.
first time I ever kicked over a big twin was a couple weeks ago on my buddies '74 FXE and I know exactly what you mean. I've kicked over enough 450 four stroke and 250 two stroke MX bikes to know how to 'get at it' with a kicker. I kinda rolled it through slowly until it was at the top of its stroke, then very subtly kinda dropped my hip into it and pushed it through as you said and sure enough it fired right up with just the right 'flicka da throttle.

My '80 is now 100% pending that upgrade. It was a thought during its build but seeing 'I can do it' ima do it!
Some info has been misleading on electronic ignition w/ kickstarts though
rip that 5lb starter assy out and take a bunch of unneeded weight off my bike! I'm JK!

The all electronic with no advance units may say kicker friendly but they aren't, I use Dyna S with a high end mechanical advance in my builds. Tried the rest and this combo is the most kick friendly I've found, they tune extremely easy too. Down side is having to check the advance unit once in while and dabbing a bit of lube on things. Do it regular they'll last years with no issues.
