Yes, go slow and take your time. It should't take much to clean the seat up. If it does it might have a scratch or something else to keep it from seating. It's worth a try and it worked great for me on a couple of different shovel heads.

I would not lap a valve under any circumstances... but, I have old Sioux Valve tools.....

go to the auto zone buy one of those radio antenna looking magnets will get it every time

@OP
If ya use lapping compound on an installed pump, you'll be lapping your entire motor once ya run it! I guess that's a good way to increase the bore size by a few thou lmao.

On my 81 FLT I tried the push rod lapping along with trying to seat a new bearing, both failed. Even a new spring. I put an S & S pump on it and forgot it. I thought it was the usual "sat too long issue", but no, pump was crap. Good luck.

Yet my last S&S oil pump was much worse than the O.E. for Sumping... It is removed right now for "attention" that it should have received at S&S....

If it's just a tinkle, I'd leave it but if you're going to Lap the seat there's a lot of work into removing the oil pump to make sure it's clean before you put it back on and at that point I don't know if I just replace the pump or not.. Could be a lot of work for not..
