Browsing for new O-Rings for my 79 FXS, I came across James Set27062-78-2, which appears to have both O-Rings and Rubber Bands. Is that right? Since my 82 FXR has Rubber Bands, this might be a good purchase.
Honestly I'd probably just go to NAPA and buy two viton O-rings the right size.
i thought it was flat ring - but I have converted a bunch especially the one that are troubling to seal with o rings - just keep it in mind if you cant get it to seal nice
Seen Many tries at using Both.... Never something I would do..
Use the correct ****, that came on it... look at how long it lasted the First time!!!!!
Rubberbands are available get decent quality [James used to work well] and above all.... Use the Correct Clamp... they are decidedly Not the Same!!!!
race they sell a square plastic o ring replacement < guy no money a 1/4 chunk missing from the head port < no o ring known to man - not going to do it don't care what glue you have
the square replacement and the flat red silicone and a good clamp fixes it - then with a good head and the head bolts tightened with out setting the manifold to a close spot - we don't pull the guys heads we compromise to a fix that works - your out of a shop a while not everybody can pull a fist of cash out for a hi idle hot

I know of the "fixes" you speak... I even remember guys using the "square" rings to put mismatched stuff together... I do Not prefer it..
Now, with Breakage... ya do what works until you can get it Fixed Properly.. IDK if that is the situation here tho...
Turns out to be a moot point, but I learned something for my 82. I was getting occasional sneezing out the B carb when cruising but all is well now with the E carb. It must have been the carb to intake seal that was leaking. I also used the head insulator so that may have helped too. Whoever installed the heads did it right, the intake is perfectly square with them.

Good you got it... Surprisingly, sometimes the accelerator pump is usefull..especially if you are prone to "blipping"...
My '82, with Bands and an aircraft style split clamp has been trouble free for???? over 25 Years, since I put an S&S [larger] intake manifold on..
and seems I always go with at least a thin Phenolic Block... I think they are beneficial...absolutely on an Ironhead, so can't hurt on a Shovel!!!
I don't know what a head insulator is??
