I appreciate the information... I will start tearing this down and getting the case out to inspect a little more... I will be able to take all the pictures I want in the AM, I'm currently out of town working right now. Once again thank you for everything

Morning, that looks like a Panhead from way over here, got a picture form the other side.

The transmission sounds like an older 4 speed for a tank shift model. They did not have the ratchet mechanism, which is why you had a gate on the tank to show you which gear you were in and help you find the next one. I think your father was big on doing what needed to do to ride, and not worried about correct year etc, etc. Look inside the left gas tank near the front, do you see two bumps that could be for mounting a gate on the tank?

Assuming the bones are correct, I would say what you have on your hands is a 50's Panhead with a wishbone frame.

Shovel head exhaust flanges on pan heads. What engine case would accept that primary with the external bolts? A cone shovel left case? 1966 gas tanks.

I totally disagree with that statement...pan and shovel are both nicknames as is pan/shovel... the moco installed a shovel top end, on a pan bottom...so the nickname is correct...

The fact that folks "frequently" use the term makes it correct...

No raised VIN pad on left case thats been stamped to match the title of the original left case. Can't make out the year though even when enlarged. So my guess is a cone left side case with the charging rotor in the primary which jives with the finned regulator in front of the engine. Do you still have the original left case?

And that statement I totally disagree with. Ever heard someone say irregardless or I "could" care less?
