Default shift conversion

Hello,
I have a 1979 FLH with the cowpie trans. I would like to convert to a heel-toe rocker style foot clutch and the police style frame mounted hand shift. The hand shift is a bolt-on part, but the foot clutch is not, from what I have found. I'm OK with welding and some fabrication. Any advice?

Thanks.

I am not sure I would characterize the frame mounted hand shift as a "bolt and go", tho I would think that places like V-Twin would carry some/most? of the parts needed for the changeover.

And after checking I see the rocker clutch assembly is available from Tedds as well. You will have to space it out so that it clearances the outer primary.

Your cow pie top is not gonna work. You will need a lid similar to this in order to have your neutral switch functional as well as having the shifting work properly. One in the pic is for 1965-E1976. Looking at the parts books it shows another for L1976-1979. I haven't a clue what the difference is tho.
And if you don't care about neutral switch then a 51-64 lid will work. Also I think you will need to use the earlier style (51-up) shift drum, shifter gear and related components to match the lid.

Off the top of my head the only other thing that stands out is if you are using a dual exhaust system. I do not believe the Shovel crossover pipe has a prefabricated "dent" in it in order to allow the rocker clutch rod to function properly. With the dent the rod clearances the bottom of the pipe by about 3/16" and allows you engage/disengage fully without issues. So if yours doesn't have it (my 84 FLH does not), it is just a matter of figuring where to use the Harley hammer on your pipe.

When you get ready start a thread on your project and your bike progress.

Yes V twin does have some of the parts. I will do research on the transmission mods. Thanks for the information.
