anyone know of an easy way to convert an 82 FXE with electric start from a hand clutch to foot clutch / hand shift?
would it just be easier to ge trid of electric start and go with kick only?
Make sure when ordering parts you get the lingo correct. Suicide and Rocker pedal is a foot clutch, Jockey is the short hand shifter bolted to the tranny. There is no suicide shift that I'm aware of. Sounds like your after a Suicide clutch and a jocky shift combo. Just remember , they call it suicide for a reason. The rocker foot pedal is way easier to ride as it will stay down when pushed till you release it. Not so with the free flying setups.

that is the set up that I am looking at. saw in V-Twin that they make a whole kit that includes the rocker style and the jockey shift that attaches to the trans.
pics to come!
I bought the jockey handle only and made my clutch arm, push rod link. That kit is pretty spendy for what it is. When I ordered mine, my 81 was an electric start (since deleted)and I don't see how you could get the handle past the solinoid housing w/o some heatin and bendin of the jockey handle. You'll have to run a cable clutch if you keep the electric start as well.
I have had a V-Twin, aka Taiwan Tedd, rocker assembly. It was junk. I had welds break and made it home banging gears with the clutch pedal assembly sitting in my lap. If you want to go with a first class suicide clutch, but don't want or can't make your own, try LaBriola.
I didn't realize labriola made a kit for the older bikes til I went to their sight. With out a doubt I would by their kit before anyone elses. I put a labriola on my night train and it is flawless. I wish I had half the talent of that guy.
good to know! thanks for the input guys. i was also looking at some Fab Kevin parts. that guy makes a jockey handle that will work with solenoid still there. so how about just getting rid of the starter? would you recomend it? i have kickstarted and old yama 650, but not an 80" Shovel before.
First time that bad boy kicks back you will certainly know it is not a 650, lol. My knees are completely shot now, and a part of that is due to years of riding a kick start Sporty and Panhead. You will learn a new meaning of respect for your sled.
