I have an 81 FXB Sturgis that is now in pieces in the garage. Due to me not paying attention I ordered the wrong part and now don't have a new o-ring for between the motor and inner primary case.
Since it is an FXB with primary belt, does it need this o-ring ? There is no oil to seal and no need for a vacuum in the primary, so I think I can leave out this o-ring ?
seen it both ways as a belt inner primary - no oil to leak Y have it - it could iso the front just a bit - we always installed it belt or chain just to be sure
Ok guys thanks for the info, looks like I need to go to the local indie to get an o-ring. The guy is an *******, once asking me why I bother with a Shovelhead as anyone knows they are crap. Coming there for a $2 o-ring is not going to make me popular.
he is a typical indy you can find almost anyplace and i am sure he has lots and lots of underwear that say fuc% house work - if it were not for those he would be waiting on a stimlous check
the o ring is the early one and flea bay has them if you can wait - and plenty of the guys on the site would mail you one
Honestly, what’s the purpose of that O-ring in his situation? I say no need for it. Maybe just a bead of silicone so it seats well. It ain’t gonna stop the crankshaft oil from leaking past that seal it if and when that seal blows. I know!
And I say his Indy can suck it. What an A-hole. My Indy is a pretty cool dude and we are grateful for each oother!!
