Those look sweet on the bike! The drilled ones are all I could find but that is cool with me anyway. I thought I had found a source for everything last night but I was on the manufacturers site and couldnt buy from them so a little more hunting around today. But hopefully I can get everything ordered today and get started on it soon.
Johnjzjz, Im not doubting you but just trying to learn what is different about his fx set up? Are they better? Will they mount to my lowers? Should I upgrade if they are better?
I am starting to realize that the 80 FLT is indeed, as you say, an odd ball lol. Also, I can believe they were going for looks over function. I found several manuals but wasnt sure which one to get over the other but I will get one coming my way. The exhaust is another thing Im going to have to figure out as the left side hanger/support for the bag was held in place by a hose clamp. I took it off to see what was up and it fell apart lol. I welded it up for now but cant find that support from the fender to the rear bag support. And I was really hoping to run some fishtails but gonna have to figure out that hanger situation. Anyway, is there a recommended place to get these old parts? Im not sure if that is allowed on here due to sponsors or whatever. I have just been googling and having hit and miss luck. Hardly any stock Harley parts. Mostly aftermarket. Thank you for all the info! Definitely a lot to learn on this one.
Yea parts are a thing to find - mechanical stuff is all the same with flh in the engine and that about it every thing else is different and preparatory to FLT and they become different your exhaust is one year FLT only hows that for special
it came with a chain bath if you can see the chain its all gone
Yea I am struggling with the exhaust. Someone has welded some hangers here and there on it. Also looks like Ill have to fab up a rear hanger if I do slap fishtails on like I want to do. Prob just run the 3 muffs for a while.
The oil bath is all still there and appears to be working. Also leaking. A lot haha. I havent looked into it as of yet. I was thinking of disabling it and running an o ring chain but I would much rather repair the leaks and leave it factory cause I think its pretty unique and cool.
I ordered a nos service manual today and found out one of my buddies is a licensed drag specialties dealer now so gonna check with him on parts Thursday. I dont know how many options I will have for parts but will know more when I talk with him. Thank you all again for the help!
I looked it over when doing the oil and transmission change the other day. It looks to be in pretty good shape but I will actually take it apart and check everything soon. Im hoping its just some seals/gaskets leaking or an easy fix. If there is anything majorly wrong and youre willing to part ways with your set up I will let ya know.
