OK my electric leg has been acting up a little for the past month and finally decided to crap out this morning. Who makes a good replacement (manufacturer) Hitachi starter? I don't want no cheap Chinese junk; or any Chinese junk cheap or not?
I couldn't find any starters made in USA. I was hoping there was a Japanese supplier. My bike is a 1984 with 7.4 : 1 compression. I will look and see if any All ***** are available anywhere. Thanks.
Yeah I read all that. J&P still lists that as made in USA. What other hoops do you have to do to mount it? There is no clear picture of the back end. I have the battery box to transmission bracket t re-attach. I don't think I need all that cranking power. My battery is up to the task as it is at 325 CCA Harley AGM battery. I am not trying to kick over a 96 inch high compression stoker motor. 7.4 : 1 compression eighty cubic inch shovel, that is stock internally. I am leaning towards something else; more of a stock replacement, and it is not the price difference that is steering me from the All *****.
Mine gave up after 140K miles. I bought the cheapest one there was ($75). Except the A/B version, they all looked alike regardless of the price. It's been solid for 2 years on a stock compression Evo. Been lazy and haven't rebuilt the original yet, but intend to do so. Some of the brush kits look worthless but there are NOS kits for sale occasionally.
Someone on here was melting batteries recently due to a dragging A/B starter. If you go that route, every single piece of the system needs to be "right."
Plenty of used starters in the USA for $8.25 (bought it) lots in the $29.00 - $35.00 range and new and used $85 and up. I am very rural. I may try to rebuild this one as well but it checks out with a shorted out Field. I haven't looked and the brushes, commutator or Armature. And I have another used one inbound for $23.00. I ought to be able to get one good one from the parts. I have brushes on the way as well.
The All ***** seems more trouble than it's worth. Like I said it is a very low compression internally stock engine. It has Points, S&S Super "E" and Drag Pipes with KW Powerplus baffles.
