Those KW PowerPlus baffles tone done the drag pipes a little, but their main function is in the driveability in the lower RPM ranges. They also get rid of the old Volkswagon whistling. KW is Khrome Werks. I have swore by them for 20 years at least.
My $8.25 used Ebay starter arrived and is installed and starting strong. The starter worked right out of the box, but after I tested it I figured I may as well check it our internally and clean / service it for the long haul. It passed all of the tests but the brushes were on the wear limit so I replaced them, cleaned up the Commutator, lubed the bushing and installed. The starter was in very nice condition and an identical match to my 1984 fried starter. I just do not trust Chinese anything anymore.
I bought another starter that came with everything needed to install an electric start except the clutch basket. The Solenoid was a very old one (the Starter was an AMF unit) but it had the Aluminum??? disc that was all burnt around. Did Harley ever use solid copper washers in the Solenoids? I seem to think my 1976 FXE had solid copper. Or, is solid copper too soft? I am trying to find a solid copper washer to rebuild that Solenoid with if that is feasible? Opinions please.
ETA: I found a solid brass washer. Would that be a good choice? I have no idea about which metals to use or avoid in this application. I don't want any that are prone to breaking, welding together, or too short lived.
