Hi guys, just rewiring/painting my 1978 flh 1200 going with the old 1957 tropical turquoise/gm white colours. Anyhow, I noticed the previous wiring had a black wire going to the shifter case to a ball like claw type connector, looks like some sort of ground. I can't see it on the wiring diagram anywhere. I'm guessing it's a ground for a neutral switch? I'm rewiring the dash as well as I think it goes there. Any ideas where this wire is supposed to go? previous owner had it spliced with those wonderful blue things but it didn't really go anywhere after that it was cut off. I can post pics if needed.
tins turned out nice, waiting for the tank, painter put the white on top like a race stripe arrgh! here's the connector. Ground?
that is the neutral switch'
the wire goes from the switch to the neutral light.
which is grounded by the switch when in neutral, completing the circuit lighting the bulb.
the feed to the bulb is only live when the ignition switch is in the on position.

Not that complicated... The Indicator is always hot..ie 12v applied. the Neutral switch provides ground to light the indicator if box is in neutral, and adjusted properly..
