Hi, I tested the stator on a 1972 FLH and all the static checks in the book were good continuity, ohm, grounds, etc. The original regulator tested bad, there was 12v from battery to the plug. Replaced the regulator and still no joy. Then did the running voltage test on stator white wire to white wire read 78v at 2000 rpm, book says 50 to 100 is good. Voltage between the red and blue wires read 140v book says 75 to 125 is correct so would this over voltage cause a new regulator to not charge at all. P.S this has a four pin type plug and the new regulator is an Accel brand with a four pin plug but it only has three wires to the plug and only three of the holes have a metal contact inside but it is stated to be for 1970 to 1975 models. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You can check the Harley Dealer for the parts or kit (doubtful this late) for an Evo or buy the complete kit from Cycle Electric. The usual vendors have them. I bought two from J&P. I have a used Cycle Electric 32 Amp Stator and Regulator but no Rotor that I may part with. But I am like the parts stores, "No Returns on Electrical items". It is too easy to short stuff out.
Mid USA sells a complete kit for a evo in 32 amp with the drum stainless ring most shops can order from them and its not expensive it is import and they last 10 years - so does cycle electric for 3 times the money your choice
Has anyone seen a new style stator that looks like an original "chrome box" stator? Something like the electronic regulator we are using on genny bikes, that you can hide under a Delco-Remy cover?

Sorry... The Stator is behind the rotor... but you knew that!!!
a chrome cover on a Regulator is doable. Our problem was we did it on a Higher Output charging system.. burned up the regulator as, one more time... on a Harley the charging system is always charging at 100% excess is Shunted to ground by the voltage regulator, creating heat..
I have yet to have a Problem with the Charging system output that came Stock on either my Shovel, nor Evo's...
but... I do Not run any excess draw electrical items... Don't even run with lights on in daylight.. No the oldest systems will Not fully charge an AGM battery even... but... Mine last 3 Years, and don't cost much.. so IDC
