Oil Tank Plug
too much chrome cheapens the look of a bike in my book,
I'm not into chrome myself, I prefer polished Stainless or Aluminium, but you do need a bit of shine from something either polished or chrome, just not too much,
ya see bikes now & again that have had everything chromed & I think they look cheap & nasty.
yours is looking good with the painted oil tank,... bloody good in fact !!

And then she started leaking oil like I never installed the bottom oil line!?!??!?! I used Teflon tape on the fitting, apparently that does not work well for this situation. Now the entire thing has to come back apart and this time we will try a goop, probably the Permatex Thread Sealer as that is on hand in the basement. hate having to drain out fresh oil, just a PITA to try and save it.
After I fix the fitting, I am going to pressure test again to make sure I do not have to do this for a third time. Anyone have a goal PSI I should be reaching to test the tank fittings?
Pics before it all went bad, at least she looks good with the black tank and headlight visor:
they are available in the USA for not a lot, Custom Chrome made them at some point,...
once fitted you never have to stress old threads in the tank or make a mess with oil, & they come with a good PTFE type seal

I used the one I had to make that setup with the braided drain hose, had the correct thread for the plug hole.
Good news, after removing the tank the lower oil line fitting was not leaking, at all. Apparently I am not an idiot and I did seal it properly.
Bad news, second pressure test revealed an old repair that did not hold up:
I most definitely pressure tested the tank after I got it, that hole was not seen, the fix held during the test. But being on the bike for one mile un-did whatever someone else did!??! Trying to think the Bay seller did not know it was there, who really knows. Looks like it might have been a JB Weld fix!?!??!
Tank is going to my tank guy (Radiator Shop) this afternoon. Hopefully he can fix her up quick and get me back rolling for the weekend, but at least for Oley on the 21st.
So it sucks to still be sidelined, but nice to see it wasn't my fault. I will take my wins where I can get them. Update complete.
That is the lower left hand corner of the tank looking at the B side of the bike. I am guessing it hit the primary when I started the bike and then went bad.
