I ran the B on my old chopper along with lots of other types of carbs, didnt care for the S.U. smooth power delivery and great milage, but not very fast. S&S was a kick in the pants, pass everything but a gas station, the original Kehin bendix clone, ran better than the S.U. but flattened out after 3/4 throttle. 44 mikuni ran better and better milage than the B (44 worked best on dragbike Sporty), last carb I had on it was dual 29mm mikuni smooth bores, ran good great milage, just by the time I got it sorted they required a little longer manifold for throttle response, then they were in my legs way.
Have you looked at the LECTRON Carb ?
Not cheap but after 45 years building & riding Harleys it is the best carb for performance I have ever had,
real easy setting up, as in no set up required 99% of the time, they have real choke systems so VERY easy starting, amazing power gain, reliability & even gas mileage has improved.
they are also very short & Light so are mounted close in even with a filter so get no problems with ya right leg fitting round it,....Plus they are Made In America,... well, Texas..
check them out here if you want the best available.... Harley Davidson (lectronfuelsystems.com)

The Lectron actually set the pace.. First flat slide that I recall... But. The original was Tough to Tune.. and a PITA mostly...Unless WFO was all that was Desired...Hell... It would even Stick at WFO from time to time to help ya out ..
The new Lectron looks Intriguing, But No Way I pay that much for "that" piece... I will keep my QwiksilverII thanks!!!! Right in Between the Mikuni and the Original Lectron functionally... and Historically!! Long as you get the II which did Not have, nor require, an accelerator pump!! And... Proudly, Made in the USA.... Thanks
my buddy had a SB&FSportster lowrider that had a first generation Lectron & as you said it was pretty much a race carb & a very good one, the new 3rd generation ones have propper idle circuits & are as streetable as any carb out there plus a performance increse over the 1st gen ones as well, the tuning if any is needed for mixture is simply set by turning a metering rod in or out by micrometer Adjustment, but from the box, I didnt even need to adjust the idle & mixture is correct all through the range of throttle settings,...
yes, they are expensive, but really are worth it,
this is mine the very first run 3 years ago, my buddys riding it up to temp, then I was gonna set the idle, but when he remembered to retard the mag, it idled perfectly & hasn't needed any adjustments since fitted,...

So Effectively... it is a copy of the QwikSilver II... maybe with a larger venturi
nothing like the Quicksilver other than a vaguely simular shape,... Lectrons are totally different & are very streetable & great on the track.... look them up....

BTDT... Look and Function seems exactly the Same... Square slide, .Non-CV, exposed vs not exposed Circuits!! Not a Whole lot different than the Original...In Fact.. I bet circuitry could be added to the Original, much like Knowing how to Modify the Circuitry of an S&S.. or a Mikuni for that matter...
I will still tout the Constant Velocity type Carbs for the Street.. But... There is a Reason there are so Many Choices..If I could afford that many Bikes... I probably would own one of Each Carb!!
the quicksilver had normal needles & jets & the overall design is nothing like a lectron,
if any carb was simular externally it was the old 'Lake & Posa' carb/injector.but they didn't even have float a bowl & pretty much didn't work well, they were also a bitch to tune all the time..
