I had the original Super B on my '66, it stuck way out, it was hard to get the leg around it. I upgraded to the "shorty", then added the acelerator pump kit (can't remember if it was with the original or shorty). I now have the E on it.
I can't really say one was better than the other for function, they all worked just fine. The accerator pump is a plus, but not that big of a deal either, I have it adjusted way down.
ive been running the B for over 30 yrs no problems other than changing jet sizes
Throttle shafts and the holes in the body it goes through on the springside in particular are prone to wearing and sucking air. Got a 5 gal bucket with nothing but tired B's and all but 2 have that issue or the throats are grooved where the butterfly rides again screwing with the flow and jetting. You been playing with jets might want to check these items.
Love the old B's ran them for years but they did have their little quirks.
Yes ... any Butterfly Carb suffers from exactly those Wear Points..The Return spring being extreme is not helping the B.
Shaft holes???? Bushings heal it rather well...and go again.. BTW Slide carbs with Like Same Mileage, suffer "wear" also.. sloppy Sliders are No Fun... Noisy and worser... Sticky
