Default Reviving a Custom Hardtail Shovelhead

About a week ago I went and picked up a project bike that has a lot of the things I've always wanted on a custom build.



Here's what I know about it from the previous owner that built it in the late 90's. 80" Shovel bored .040" with Ross 9.5:1 pistons on a Paughco hardtail frame. CAL Products cases, T&O shaved flywheels, S&S rods and crankpin, Andrews A-Grind solid lifter cam, Morris M-5 magneto, Karata 3" open primary.


I've been cleaning up the bike since I got it. I put some fresh oil in and had to clean up the points in the magneto. I hooked up the fuel line and poured some gas in the tank to get ready to try and start it. The fuel valve leaks and so does the carb but it still ran very well for not being started in over 15 years. Here's a short video of it running.


The carb is supposed to be a SU Eliminator II but the numbers on the side JZX 1611 lead me to believe it's a HIF44 with a date stamp of '88. I'm looking for a rebuild kit for it to fix the leaking problem and was curious if anybody had any information on what the correct kit I would need. If any other pictures of the carb are needed let me know. Thanks!

That sounds like a proper Harley, very cool!

Hi, & welcome to the club MRW, ,
nice bike with some nice bit's n bobs all over it,.....
I have the same 3'' Karata belt drive & the quality is far better than others are, good bit of kit,
one thing I did to mine, was to get a buddy in a print shop tp print me a Degree wheel in sticker form that is stuck

on the front pully end ring, helps timing without having to get the plug out & oil everywhere, I might even have a spare one in the workshop, I'll have a look at the weekend.... if I have one still & your liking I'll drop it in the post for ya......

is that a modified pulley cover for easy belt change
