I do Not recall any FXS having Forward controls... I know certainly Not in 1977, nor 1979, nor 1984...
Those look like FXWG controls...

Default 1983 fxsb

Change them to forward in 1990 along with the tanks. Tanks were 3.5 gal. Now 5 g. Also the Super E and front rotors, seat, pipes. Everything else is still factory.

Yes I sure do,sold it in 2002 to pay of the 2000 Electra I bought new and was making payments on even after trading in the 1989 Electra I had before it. I held out as long as I could but finally caved in and let her go. Fast forward 20 years, the 2000 had 200,000 miles on it and I had bought a new 2019 Electra late in the year,I still missed the old FXRS a lot but that '19 handles nice for a big bike.
Still it's no FXR,then I ran across a deal from a neighbor and picked up an '89 FXR in running but sad cosmetically condition for $3500.
It's going to the bare frame for a restomod, already picked up a lot of parts including the correct front cast mag wheel and a complete new set of chromed forks.
Started mocking things up,got a nice H-D badlander seat (hard to find no longer in production for FXR) bought Ness side covers, mirrors with stealth turn signals in the stems a Moons tail light with stealth signals built in etc.etc.
Planning on an S&S 111" for power.

I had already pulled a crappy sissybar and cheap crappy bags off it before I brought it home on the trailer.

Gotta have both mirrors and turn signals here in WA or they'll pop ya for it.
These cheesy mirrors had to go. Seat sure looks better.

I like the fly screen,no I won't be wearing an SOA vest.

11" Progressives and laydown license plate,Ness covers. Those forward controls have to go,bought a minty set of mids for it already.

Lots more new,all chrome switch housings and new switches and wiring etc.etc.
Painting the tins this color and using '84 style tank decals.

Nice looking FXR. I preferred the forward controls on my 84 over the mids on my 83. Wanted the ness side covers but sold the bike before I got around to that. And the Badlander seat hurt my nuts.

Great info in this thread. The seller of the FXSB vanished for the moment so no pics.

There's a guy that works (or at least did last time I was there a couple years back) at the Portland,OR H-D dealer formerly Latus Motors that had this exact bike, same color and all. Rare bird but they exist.

I got a lot of grief from old timers on my '84,likely more given the early Evo engine.
I shrugged it off and loved the bike,I've read that Knucklehead riders in the mid 1930's got a lot of grief from the old timers when that new fangled OHV motor came out.
I remember diehard Evo guys poo pooing the Twincams, now it's the M8.
