I have to re-paint the inner primary for one of my FXBs. Does anyone have a definite answer on the color? At some angles it looks matte black. And at other angles it looks wrinkle black, like the solenoid. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I have seen them in wrinkle black & also in aluminium, not sure what was stock, if wrinkle black,
i found for best even results are achieved by using a heat gun as soon after the second coat has been applied, get it all over on 'Hot' untill it wrinkels all over,
then leave it to cure for a day or two, you often find that without using a heat gun, even if you follow the instructions to the letter, it wont wrinkle or it can be patchy.
try it on a test piecebefore & see it happen in front of your eyes, it takes 5-10 minutes depending on the items size & thickness of paint, but when it happens it's like a speeded up film of frost forming on glass,...

On my 81 FXB I have the impression the paint is matte black, the wrinkle is not in the paint but is just from the inner primary being an un-polished sand casting.
