I have fishtails on my 82 FLT that I really dont like....... rusty and quiet. I contact a local shop that specializes in shovels and he doesnt know of anything still made with this style mount. Anyone know of a non fishtail slip on that will work?
No... But... Somebody Wants them Mufflers.. I suggest BS&T thread... Good luck... and remember, Loud does Not Equal Performance, on the Street..
Loud Baggers at the Strip???? Better be able to run 11's..
I dont care about the strip..... I just like all my bikes to have at least a rumble. The fishtails are just ugly.. I know people like them just not me.
Looks like not much holds that mounting bracket to the bike. I suggest you remove that and get whatever your new mufflers need. Then you can sell those mufflers with the bracket the new owner will need.

If you change from that set-up, you may very well need the stock trail arms. You can bolt whatever size hanger clamps your new mufflers are to them.
Disclaimer: These aren't mine. Borrowed this pic for illustration purposes. Swap meet or J&P to source them.

Maybe ... but, the ones you show are left: 4-speed stuff and Rt FXR, maybe FXD, type..
the ones the OP shows are what was on My '83 FLHT, Stock.. obviously not Fishtails tho..
That is a very funky exhaust mount, those early FLT's have lots of parts that are specific to them alone. I did some research and could not find a muffle for your year and model and those brackets shown in a previous post are 100% not for your bike.
You may need to get creative. Perhaps you could get some generic slip on and cut the bracket off of your mufflers and have them welded to the new ones. Sounds like a PITA but your options may be very limited with that model.
Or maybe just as easy to sawzall off the fish tail.

yep that may end up happening. I will also look into the FLH mounts. Thanks for the ideas![/QUOTE]
IAM just wondering that the motor is rubber mounted with the exhaust,
will there be a hassle having a ridged exhaust mounted to a rubber mounted motor?
