Can any one give me the measurement of the width of a chain drive swing arm for a shovel head FX frame bike. At the big end where the wheel is. I hear that the belt drive swing arm is wider. I am looking at a used swing arm now but need to know the width to be sure it is right. My bike is not here so I can not do this my self.
Up date: I think I found some info on line, 9" between the fork end on the chain drive and I think that the belt drive would be more. Only took me over 5 hours of looking around on line. lol I hope the info I found is correct.
I have a '84 FXE that came with a rear chain. The swingarm is 9 inches inside to inside measured just forward of the wheel hub with a tape measure fed through the brake disc, spokes and rear sprocket.
From what I have read the belt driven is about 1/2 wider. The bike I am getting has a chrome aftermarket swing arm and rear caliper bracket. There are 3 or 4 different swing arms for this F frame so I needed to make sure I got it right the first time. The one I have coming is 9" between. The caliper bracket is like a 2 year item and was not easy to find. Wish I could have found a NOS one, guess I am lucky that I found one at all. Maybe if I glass bead it I can get it looking good. Thanks for the help guys.
I have an original swing arm and rear caliper bracket to replace the chrome parts already. I will get the swing arm blasted and powder coated and the bracket glass bead blasted. Maybe I should wait until the motorcycle gets here before I buy more stuff. lol
