Default Brake Pads

Wondering what some of you have been using in the way of brand and composition of brake pads. This is for my restoration of non-drilled rotors and is not going to be raced or run hard. I do not know what Harley's composition was back in the day.

When looking on line every brand say they are the best.

geez i just changed my front ones but cant remember what i used but the rear is SBS. my front ones looked new to me but the brake was useless then a mc mech mate said change the pads and clean the discs.it might have been organic pads i used but cant be sure but what it was made a huge difference and works perfect with little pressure at the lever

Just did the same thing last year on my 79 FXE-F 80" with the cast wheels, went back to stock looking rotors and used EBC FA71V on the front and FA400V on the rear. They are the Semi Sintered pads. Did get a chance to ride it much as winter closed in.

My 79 has 20 k miles and just got to the pads yesterday. I'm not gonna be doing to much high speed riding just up and down rt 9 in Ocean County and maybe the Garden State . Local shop had these - said they were good the bike still had the originals on it

So many different choices ! I found a set of the NOS revised OEM Harley pads front and back from a seller in Canada with a reasonable price. I am thinking that these should work for what I am doing. I am not having any luck finding an NOS rear rotor though and may have to go after market. Mine is original but worn.

Got my brake pads today and there is not much on them, not much more that 1/8 inch and no wear slot cut in either. Does this seem like the norm?

Note...For Me, Using soft (as in organic) pads works best with Hard, ie Cast, rotors... while Hard Pads...ie Sintered etc, work best with Softer ie Stainless rotors
Just my Observation that Like materials do Not provide the best co-efficient of Friction!! YMMV

Harley uses sintered metallic pads witch are hard on the rotors. I switch the pads on my bikes to organic material which is much easier on the rotors.
