The Oldest, longest lasting Enclosed Primary belt, is on my Good Friends '74...that I inherited, RIP Mark... He Had it Rebuilt completely when I was Still partners in our Shop!!
I know it was previous to my "Unfortunate Incident" ...so before 1993... Anyway. That belt is showing no deterioration...caked in Oil and Sludge, and sealed up in there... I clean it out every couple Years or So..And yes...We Ride it plenty.. Certainly Any Event his People put on that he would have attended...
Alignment and tension (no idler) are Important...

For a low budget bullet proof shovel clutch, stock plates or Alto Reds, a Ramjett retainer and an aluminium pressure plate. Setup and adjusted properly this takes all the headaches out of the shovel clutch and finding neutral games.
Mine is a Sifton diagram pressure plate and later spring plate instead of the 10 springs. They are still around if you search it but the hub that comes with kit is junk the studs are real soft. Use the stock one if the studs are in decent shape. Works pretty well but I'm running a 7 plate Kevlar clutch also.
