i’m building a 73 FLH shovelhead. it’s my first build teaching myself and learning as i go. i picked up a cowpie trans from a swap meet and after opening it up a few of the gears have a good amount of pitting in them. i want to rebuild it myself and just pull and replace all the gears, cuz the case is good and dont feel like blowing it up. anybody know how i can order all the correct gears in one purchase or do i have to pull the part number for each gear and buy them separately. i’ve tried digging for a full gear set and just not finding one. any help is appreciated
I've never done this myself ,but if you are going to replace all the gears ,I would think if you go with Andrews gears , you could probably order all that you need in 1 shot, if you go original HD your probably looking at ordering each piece , . . .good luck, keep us posted
You need the factory book for 77 and later yet you have a 73 that had a different transmission in the case - bearings - hi gear counter shaft and depending on year of trans the main shaft plus the gaskets an seals
now you can swap it BUT the starter is also different and the housing attachment to the inner primary - some of those cow pies were belt drive and that is another issue
if You can return it would be a better deal - they are not expensive to buy then the correct ratchet type you actually need
the problem is by the time you buy and re adapt the bike to that trans it would be cheaper to get the right one - but being no idea what part of the world you are from helping is almost impossable — you should always ask before you reach into your pocket
I just did some checking, the Andrew's gear sets are for transmissions up to 1976 & don't come with main or counter shafts, so I think you should re-sell your trans & start over & just count it as a learning expierance. & like John says , ask before you spend your hard earned cash .

the book is not really correct the 77 1/2 trans they went to cage needle bearings hi gear and counter gear cluster — early is loose roller bearings they dont replace each other - lots of changes in the gear box
I think the OP will definitely need a lot of help, I don't think this is something to work & teach yourself by learn by doing , it would be better to just start over 😉
