I am all in for original paint (tho it is not a breaking point). My 67 is the only OP bike I currently own; the others are rebuilds with as close to correct as I can afford.

Haven't seen your previous posts and all you posted up was limited to a photo with brief info.

My first thread is just a few lines down on the thread list,...titled 1972 FLH. Lots of pictures. Link https://www.hdforums.com/forum/shove...-1972-flh.html

Couple thoughts (did a quick read on your first post...lots of info there).

1. The "Electra Glide" front fender emblem was not used' it was the plastic reflector (thinking D.O.T regulation requirement).
2. The oval cover shows a ribbed insert. Is this the type you have?
3. The fairing was offered as a factory option beginning with 1969 year models. Prior to that, if you wanted wind protection, it was just a plastic windshield.

Pic is from the 1972 Accessory Catalog. Doesn't have a lot of info and it it is really short on details (only 12 pages total, skimpy compared to other years of HD catalogs)

Front and rear bumpers were pretty much standard issue equipment, but here is a factory photo of your basic, bares bones 65 FLH model. HD offered several "levels" of factory enhancement packages for a modest price increases for the different levels.

Understand you are wanting a police style solo seat (I have done the same). It looks as tho your seat is correct for your year (seat patterns changed a bit over the years) and the backrests are definitely factory options. Might look on the bottom of your seat. Should be a yellowed date stamp on it that will look something like this

AMF years solo seat also had a date stamp on them and the leather underside that was riveted was brown and not black like all current aftermarket and even HD ones sold today.

Parts books only lists this type of gas tank for 66 and up FLH models and this type of petcock (until 1974).

Mine worked just fine, and for 1980 season they used an all new V-2 electronic ignition system that was flawless. Put some 65K on my 84 FLH. Never once let me stranded.

Looks like the start of a nice plan. Take lots of pics of your progress and be sure to post. You get around to paint, I'll dig up the name of the guy that took over ColorRite since John Pierce stepped out of the game.
my elec ign on a 80 lowrider has not let me down since ive owned the bike since 84

You indicated a desire for a proper restoration

Couple other points of observation...

Your floorboards were first introduced for 1974 models and in the accessory catalog are referred to as "Shock-Proof Floorboards" (#50603-74). Here is a pic of the floorboards used from 1966 to 1973 Big twin models:

I cannot tell from looking at yours just how thick the rubber pad is, but on mine (67 FLH), it is very thin, even thinner than the cloth=backed pads used on my 65 FLH. And don't know what holds the rubber underneath to the metal boards, but mine is flat and the metal at one time would have been cad finished.

If you are going back to the pul-type Bendix carb, V-Twin has the components you need for the right handlebar. It's a bit tricky getting the cable and cousin the the maze of wires and thru the upper triple tree and between the left down tube and the top of the front cylinder.

From your pics it looks like the front horn is mounted on top of the right crash bar? Just needs to be relocated inside the nacelle. Mounts to a bracket that attaches on the top of the upper triple tree

RE: passing lamps

Shell:The chrome-plated body is marked "GUIDE H" over "SAE 0 62" on top and has Guide in script on the back under "MADE" and over "IN USA". It has a pivot plate at the bottom riveted to the shell at four points securing a 1-5/8" long hollow pivot bolt for the turn signal bracket. The extra length is for the turn signal bracket #68523-68.

Spotlamp Bracket:1968-1984 Hydra-Glide forks use spotlamp/passing lamp support bar #68780-68

To Panz4ever,

Thanks for the comments and details. I am wanting the bike very original looking, but I am not 100% sticking to it...more like 95%

1. As for the Electraglide emblem...it certainly looks better than a reflector, which I have already removed. And it seems the entire series of bikes should be called ELectraglides, as it carries that iconic name and Harley should have NEVER stopped using it..

2. Yes, I have the oval intake cover, with ribbed centerpiece, and will DEFINITELY be using that. It is the focal point to the bike, and one I remember from my childhood

3. I have the original white fairing, and I am going to at least clean it up. I may install it, but typically, with all my bikes, I prefer being fully in the wind. This bike does look "right" with this fairing. I removed the windshield from my 04 Roadking after the 30 mile drive from my house to my garage,...sold it, ..and spent the next, 138,000 miles on the bike without it. Thats the way I roll. The fairing also covers up the iconic and beautiful headling housing.

4. The front and rear bumpers....I have the original rear...the front that was on the bike is wrong. And, I am not a fan of the look. My Road King does not have bumpers, and it looks better IMO. If I found an original style front bumper,....I might install them, as it is the look of the touring line. Of course...they serve no real purpose.

5. I purchased a new Police Solo seat (Corbin Gentry), and it looks very correct, and I love the solo. I would not be seen in public with the big white dual seat on the bike....as it is hideous IMO. It and the backrest is for sale. My wife will have to be content riding with me on the Road King....but really she prefers the Corvette!

6. I wish my fuel tank was the correct year with the correct petcock....but its not. It is either a later model year Harley, or aftermarket, fuel tank, and the paint is very nice, so this is one I will concede on.

7. The floorboards on the bike are the cushion style, and I will replace them with correct style as in your pictures.....hopefully cad plated, and not chrome.

8. I want to use the original style throttle cable, running inside the handlebars....so I will have to use the aftermarket parts, unless I can find original.

9. I will mount the horn inside the headlight housing, as was original.

10. I found a very nice set of original passing lamps, with the "Guide" stampings, from a 72, and will be using those.....I really like them. Those "Made in USA" features mean alot to me.

Again, thanks for the input and pictures, that is what makes these forums very helpful.

I don't think I am going to use all the stuff that makes the chain oilers function. Its just too much extra nonsense and hoses to deal with. On my previous Shovel (73), I converted it to a wet primary, and the real chain was an O-ring chain, that worked very well without all the original doo-dads. I may change my mind on this.....will decide when the time comes. I do want to use the original clutch setup, not spending big dollars for the better Barnett clutch I used on the 73......???
