I equate it to working with a flathead ford hoping to beat the Ford Voodoo engine. I think there was a time when the S&S engines made sense when everything was slow but not anymore. Life is simpler when you accept something for what it is.
but shovelhead has a special look and sound about it make folks go wow look at that

Making things go faster, especially ones never intended to be fast at all, is a very deep and expensive rabbit hole. My little 45 will keep up with modern bikes and most riders. That is not how Bill Harley designed her.

Respectfully I must disagree. Your 45 will keep up with your M8? Does your 45 have twin turbos and a 50 shot of NOS that Im not aware of?

I can think of several different costs, one being comfort.

Up to 60 MPH, the average rider would not even notice my bike is almost 80 years old. Not talking by a serious rider, average. Never had an issue keeping up with anyone, but I have had people having issues keeping up with me. But it ain't cheap for sure.

Now stopping, that is a different conversation.
