Usually a clicking noise or sticking closed so the starter doesn't stop when the button is released. Although there are several causes of these symptoms, so a full diagnostics is in order. Start with the battery, even if is is fairly new. Then check for voltage drop across the wire and relay under a load.
The original location of the relay is under the bottom of the battery box. Although I've seen 73 FLH with both the Ford and rectangular type relay.
