Default Inner primary install

They say no such thing as a stupid question so here goes! Bike is a 1976 FLH, I’m changing trans sprocket, replace seals. The engine and transmission are bolted down, when I reinstall the inner primary do I have to loosen the transmission or can the inner primary be bolted back in place since nothing loosened when inner primary was removed. Thank you for any assistance.

If same same primary ... it shouldn't be a problem..Hand fit, and ensure you Do Not force Anything.. certainly Not anywhere near the Ring at the alternator.. very easy to Break...then, yer Screwed!!

^^^ This, and check the inner doesn't rock at all, you don't know if the person who last had it apart did it correctly.

Yes...absolutely... If in any Doubt..I loosen all 5 Trans Bolts...then carefully fit Inner...when Inner is secure, ensure tranny is sitting tight to Mounting Plate...(if Not... Spacers are Required) then bolt it back down!!
PITA...but..

Find enough problems with the old iron I do a full go over on them when the inner comes off. Loosen the front & upper motor mount bolts, check torque on the rears, feeler gauge the front for any gap and shim if needed, same with the upper. Loosen the trans, install the inner with the 4 motor bolts then pull the trans in with 2 of the studs. Get under and check the trans mounts for any gaps and shim to correct. Torque it all down. Be surprised how often things are out, and it does knock down felt vibration. Lot of nagging oil leaks and seeping come from the halves and mating points working against each other even with good gaskets and sealer.
