This one don't make sense. There ain't any flyback diode in the solenoid. It's wired like there are 2 solenoids. There is only 1. The top one could be a relay but the coil is missing on the bottom.

Yeah, that drawing's mine for my '80 FLH and it works like a champ. Lever solenoid on the bottom will never run on, releasing it opens the Ford solenoid, motor stops running.

Funny, that drawing's from a while back. Latest shows the points and a crank posiition circuit that tells me when to kick. That lever solenoid's still working like a champ.

The only way I see it working is if what you labeled as "starter solenoid" is not the original solenoid but a separate one and the "manual lever solenoid switch" is the solenoid mounted on the primary. It seems like extra parts.

Got a Pic?

Max,
Had to change password, etc., what baloney. Yeah there are extra parts here...

Could have been clearer. The solenoid is one of those simple big black Ford numbers, will look for pix, was a while back.
The lever solenoid is on the primary and replaces the stock solenoid; not being able to stop run-on sucked. You'll want to make that shaft support piece out of an old primary so you can tune the in/out on the lever.
And, belt and suspenders: installed a big ground switch on the battery negative. If I have to turn it off, it's turning off.

Couldn't find separate pix of the Ford solenoid and cut-off switch. Here they are, bolted to the bottom of the battery tray, hanging out of the way when I installed the kicker. The black solenoid's on the left, the thumb wheel cut-off on the right.

Max,

I apologize, you're right, that old diagram was missing a solenoid. Looking at the solenoid/cut-off pick, I'm like, wait, there's the solenoid back there. The current diagram is below. More parts, but it works and has for years.
Getting ready to play with some single fire, so this'll be changing "soon".

John

That one is much better.. One thing to note from a retired EE is that what you call the starter solenoid is really nothing more than another relay. If you look at it and the relay below, they are pretty much the same thing except that the current level is higher on the one going to the starter motor. The term solenoid typically means current in / mechanical out typically in the form of linear actuation. Still Ford may have called it's relay a solenoid. Your mechanical switch / actuator replaced the solenoid..

Very clean work tho...
